Q: When does my race entry form and money need to be turned in?

A: Please turn in your completed registration packet, signed waiver, and registration fee by February 15, 2019. It can be mailed to P.O. Box 1141 Columbus, GA 31902. If you register after February 15, we can’t guarantee the entire team will get a t-shirt that fits. You can also complete your entry using the Online Registration, it will allow you to pay online as well. With an early registration, you will receive all the race day instructions needed to make your race day go smooth and FUN. Your team can request a “pre-race day” inspection of your bed (within a 20-mile radius) to be certain about your bed construction.

Q: What time is the event over?

A It depends on the number of beds entered. We believe the latest will be 1:30 PM. We ask each team to exercise good sportsmanship by staying for the award ceremony. There are several other awards/prizes, besides speed, that will be given out and are not announced until then.

Q: What is the race format and how are the winners determined?

A: Each team will race twice. 2 beds will race head to head in each heat. Your race is timed. The 1st heat will set the pairings for the final heat based on the best times. The winners will be determined by the fastest combined time of the 2 races/ heats. There are 3 divisions in which to compete – Church, Business/Community, and School. The Fastest Bed Award will go to ONE team with the fastest overall combined time, regardless of division.

Q: As a spectator how do I watch the race?

A: Most people stand along side 14th St on both sides. You can bring a chair, but it must be placed on the sidewalk and not on the street.

Q: I have a few friends at work (church, etc..) and we would like to participate but we are not sure we could actually build a bed to race. Do you have any extra beds that we could use?

A: We cannot guarantee there will be a bed available. However, there is usually a sponsored bed or two that needed people to race them. Please call the VIP office at 706-494-6348 if you wish to be on that list.

Q: Do you need brakes and steering for your bed?

A: Each bed is different but you really only need a team member on each corner of the bed in order to properly keep your bed under control. With the bed pushers on the corners, you can stop your bed safely and steer your bed accurately down the course.

Q: How much time does it take to run the race heat?

A: Heats run between 20 seconds to 1 minute depending on how fast your team can push.

Q: What if my team just wants to have fun and not really have to compete with a super fast team?

A: No problem. We will try to make everyone have fun. We can pair you up with another team that is more your speed. Just let us know ahead of time and we will do our best.
